Churches FAQ

How many young people how many young adults do I need to have to run this course?

We would recommend running the course with no less than 2 young adults.

What do we need to provide as a church?

In order to run the resource effectively the local church is required to provide a number of key elements:

  • A facilitator who can oversee participants’ serving experience and facilitate weekly teaching and activation moments.
  • A support mentor who will journey alongside participants encouraging and supporting them.
  • Weekly serving opportunities for participants. We would recommend that students spend 1 – 1.5 days serving in the life of their local church. This might involve them focussing on one particular ministry area (for example, Compassion) or it may involve serving across a number of ministry areas (Youth, Kids, Compassion etc). Serving opportunities should be discussed and planned in collaboration with participants ahead of starting the discipleship year.

What support is available for me as I run this course?

In order to run Vineyard Discipleship Year in your local setting we ask all churches to complete the Church Induction Course. This course is packed with helpful interviews, links and resources that can help you prepare to host your participants well. In addition, there is the opportunity to gather together once a term with other facilitators to learn and share ideas together. Finally, facilitators have additional notes and guidance included with their facilitators pack to help the run the course with participants.

What is the maximum number of young adults I can have?

This is a decision that must be made by the local church. You will know how many participants you can host well, ensuring that each participant has an appropriate amount of serving and time given to them during the year. For many churches this will be between 2 & 3 while for others they may have capacity for 5 or over. We would recommend discussing the expectations of the year with your local team as you make this decision.

Is the residential compulsory?

Yes the residential is compulsory for all Vineyard Discipleship Year participants.

For the remaining fee of £400 there are three payment plan options available:
12x monthly payments of £33.33, starting in September and finishing the following August.

At this stage there isn’t any financial support available for participants but we would encourage participants to look at fundraising options to support their year.
