2020 Vision: A letter from the Mumfords

Mar 10, 2011

A letter from John and Eleanor Mumford

At the recent National Leaders’ Conference, we were delighted to be able to share the vision that we feel God has given to us as a movement for the next ten years.

Following the ringing endorsement from our Senior Pastors and Church Leaders at the NLC, we wish now to convey this exciting vision to you and the entire movement. So, looking forward over the next 10 years…

We believe strongly that we in the Vineyard have a strong future and something to offer the world and the church globally.

Our fundamental vision has not changed! God has called us to preach the gospel and to plant and develop churches. However, we feel that now is the time to ‘put our foot on the pedal’ and power forward with what God has in store for us, as He guides us in the growth of the Vineyard Churches in the UK & Ireland.

In a nutshell there are three elements or rockets, that will propel us forward to the next stage:

1. Keep On (Legal and Financial)

2. Build Up (Church Development)

3. Press Forward (Church Planting)

Some key elements in our growth will be releasing emerging leaders, targeting key cities, developing church-planting centres and underpinning this with a slightly expanded Council which will help to facilitate growth.

We see this as a call to arms, a call to every single church, regardless of its size, to pursue the vision we believe that God has given us.

As part of this vision we are planning a ‘Vineyard National Celebration’ on Saturday 14th May. Our dream is that all over the nation people from across the Vineyard will gather for worship, thanksgiving, prayer and offerings. Full details of this, together with all of the different locations, will appear on the VCUKI website soon.

We believe deeply, passionately that God is speaking to us, and the resounding feedback from our leaders has confirmed this.

So what’s the bottom line? We believe there is absolutely no doubt that the Vineyard has a future and we believe that this vision is part of what God has in store for us as a movement. Indeed Simon Ponsonby, at the NLC, added that “The Vineyard is a movement on the move.” We couldn’t agree more.

We hope you will join us in the excitement we are sensing about the vision for the next decade, as we pursue Christ, his Church and his Cause.

With our love, as ever,

John & Eleanor
