Vineyard Churches is a Church Planting movement, with over 1500 Churches in six continents.
The Vineyard movement, committed as it is to the multiplication of Christ-centred, Kingdom of God-minded communities of local churches in all nations, has churches spread over six continents. Some countries have their own 'Association', which means that they oversee all Vineyard churches in their country or in some cases a group of countries.
In countries where there are a small number of Vineyard churches they would be overseen by a larger association.
In addition to the ten nations where Vineyards are already established, there are also churches and church-planting activity in many other nations of the world. For forther information please email office@vineyard.org
The Vineyard movement in the USA was a fledgling group of churches which had emerged from Calvary Chapel in California, when John Wimber assumed its leadership in 1982. It is now a large and flourishing movement of several hundred churches in the United States, involved in church-planting and missions work all over the world. The movement is led by Bert and Evelyn Waggoner who were, until 2009, the Senior Pastors of the Sugarland Vineyard in Texas

The first Vineyard in Canada began on the west coast in Langley, a suburb of Vancouver in 1984. This church was released as a Vineyard by John Wimber in 1985. The movement grew and became its own Association in 1995. It is led by Gary and Joy Best who have recently moved from the Vancouver area to New Brunswick in the east of Canada.

The Association of Vineyard Churches UK was released in 1996, although the first church was planted in London in 1987. It has since been renamed Vineyard Churches UK & Ireland (VCUKI) to reflect the growing presence of Vineyard Churches in Ireland. John & Eleanor Mumford who had worked for nearly two years with John Wimber on the staff of the Anaheim Vineyard in California planted the SW London Vineyard in 1987. They handed over the leadership of that church in 2008 in order to concentrate more upon the oversight and development of the Vineyard movement, both nationally and internationally.

There has been Vineyard activity in South Africa since John Wimber’s visit there in 1981. The movement grew, developed and was released in 1997. It is led by Costa and Lorraine Mitchell, who having led churches in Johannesburg and Capetown, are involved with church-planting and the developing of churches throughout sub-Saharan Africa.

John Wimber first visited New Zealand in 1986 where he connected with Lloyd and Victoria Rankin who were beginning to plant churches there. In 1995 the ten churches they had gathered together joined the Vineyard movement. Lloyd and Victoria continue to lead the movement as well as their own church, the Urban Vineyard in central Auckland.

The first Vineyard church in the Nordic countries began in 1992 and by 1998 Vineyard churches in Norway, Denmark, Sweden and Finland were released as their own Association. They are currently overseen by a National Board of leaders, comprising two couples form Sweden, two from Norway and one from Denmark.
Prior to 1995 there had been a number of very successful Vineyard conferences run in Australia. However it was not until 1995 that the first Vineyard churches began. In 2003 the Vineyard churches of Australia were recognised as their own national movement and so the Association of Vineyard Churches, Australia was born. Peter and Kathy Downes, who have themselves planted two churches in Melbourne, lead the movement
